Assessor: Teacher Certification Program

Milwaukee Teacher Education Center (MTEC) is seeking ASSESSORS with proven track records of successful teaching experience who are passionate about cultivating growth in new teachers for a new generation of students. This position will evaluate the teaching performance of assigned interns teachers aligned to model teaching standards. 

MTEC is a not-for-profit, teacher certification and professional development organization focused on “transforming learning through effective teaching.” MTEC operates an alternative route program for teacher licensure that is approved by the Department of Public Instruction.

This position requires a flexible, collaborative person who upholds the highest standards for teacher quality and keeps student academic and social/emotional needs at the forefront of their efforts. This position requires the ability to evaluate new teachers’ teaching performance and use scores to provide feedback grading areas of strength and specific areas of growth. 

Required Certifications/Licenses:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Valid and active Wisconsin DPI teaching license (Professional Educator level or Lifetime License only)
    • Principal
    • Director of Instruction
    • Regular Education (elementary/middle-level education)
    • Early Childhood Special Education
    • Cross Categorical Special Education
    • Secondary Mathematics
    • Secondary Science subjects
    • Bilingual-Bicultural Education
    • Computer Science

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree 
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Urban teaching experience
  • Previous experience conducting teacher evaluations

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience. Minimum of 1 year serving in a leadership role

Position Type: Part-time

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Understanding of diverse student populations and inquiry-based approaches to learning. 
  • Deep understanding of equity principles to deepen beginning teacher’s application of standards.
  • Devote the time needed to develop the skills required of an outstanding teacher applicant and providing quality mentoring to the intern teacher
  • Holding regular scheduled meetings/observations with the intern teacher
  • Willingness to engage in formative assessment processes, including non-evaluative, reflective conversations with intern teachers using evidence of classroom practice and student learning. 
  • Ability and experience using technology to access documents, communicate with mentees and colleagues, as well as use as an everyday tool for teaching and learning. 
  • Demonstrate skillful use of coaching language.
  • Detailed orientated

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain accurate written documentation and submit the required documents in a timely manner.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with program administration, mentor, and intern teacher regarding any issues impacting teacher candidate’s performance
  • Attend meetings and professional development sessions as necessary to ensure quality and continuity in the MTEC Teacher Certification Programs.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Improvement Plans as needed
  • Establish and maintain a trustful and confidential relationship with intern teachers.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times.
  • Utilize technology to communicate, share resources, and provide feedback

 Other Information:

  • Must be available to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings, to respond to the needs of teacher interns.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. 

Mentor: Teacher Certification Program

Milwaukee Teacher Education Center (MTEC) is seeking MENTORS with proven track records of successful teaching experience and are passionate about cultivating growth in new teachers for a new generation of students. This position will engage intern teachers through the art of effective coaching to instill and support effective teaching skills, behaviors, and strategies. 

MTEC is a not-for-profit, teacher certification and professional development organization focused on “transforming learning through effective teaching.” MTEC operates an alternative route program for teacher licensure that is approved by the Department of Public Instruction.

This position requires a flexible, collaborative person who upholds the highest standards for teacher quality and keeps student academic and social/emotional needs at the forefront of their efforts. This position requires the ability to deliver feedback to new teachers and use data to determine next steps.

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct regular scheduled mentoring visits for each intern teacher
  • Provide regular written and verbal feedback to teacher candidates on various aspects of their teaching as it relates to teaching standards
  • Maintain accurate written documentation and submit the required documents in a timely manner.
  • Provide emotional support and encouragement to intern teachers.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with program administration and intern teacher regarding any issues impacting teacher candidate’s performance
  • Attend meetings and professional development sessions as necessary to ensure quality and continuity in the MTEC Teacher Certification Programs.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Improvement Plans as needed
  • Establish and maintain a trustful, confidential, and non-evaluative relationship with intern teachers to help develop their autonomy as professionals. 
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times.
  • Utilize technology to communicate, share resources, and provide feedback
  • Share research-based best practices in daily instruction practice and analysis of student work.
  • Use knowledge of equity principles to deepen beginning teacher’s application of standards.
  • Model, as appropriate, exemplary, innovative teaching practices and methodologies through techniques such as co-teaching and demonstration lessons.
