Our School
Meet Me at Mesa
In 2011, the ULC Board of Directors commissioned a team of accomplished former principals and staff members to design an innovative charter school proposal. The resulting school, Milwaukee Environmental Sciences Academy (MESA), has adopted the Expeditionary Learning model which supports teachers in designing learning projects that combine academic rigor and character development.

We are deeply disappointed by the decision made by the MPS Board to reverse the initial site committee’s recommendation of a 3 year renewal for Milwaukee Environmental Sciences Academy.
However, this decision does not define the incredible work our educators, students, and families have accomplished together over the last 12 years. MESA has been a cornerstone of academic and character development for children in Milwaukee, in the Midtown community, and that legacy will not fade.
More information will follow in the coming weeks as we prepare for what’s next.

Since 2013
MESA opened in 2013 as a Year-Round Education school serving grades K4 to 5th grade and grew one grade level each year. MESA is currently K4 – 8th grade serving over 400 children. MESA is authorized by Milwaukee Public Schools as a “non instrumentality” charter school. Milwaukee Environmental Sciences Academy serves as a training and professional development facility to fulfill ULC’s mission.
